Use the NHS 'Find a GP' tool with your Warwick postcode (usually CV4). Warwick students most often use the on-campus Warwick Health Centre.
Find a GP - 2Register online or in person
Visit the surgery during consulting hours or use their online registration. Ask specifically to be added to the NHS patient list so you're not charged privately.
How to register - 3Bring your documents
Passport, eVisa (share code), university student letter, and proof of your UK address. You can request a woman-only doctor list if you prefer.

Specific health topics
Practical guidance on the situations Indian students in the UK actually run into.
Sexual health / GUM clinics offer free, confidential contraception, condoms, pregnancy tests, STI tests and smear tests. GPs also prescribe contraception.
New MenB programme for first-time undergrads and anyone living in halls for the first time β under-25 by 31 Dec 2026. Two doses, 4+ weeks apart; get the first before you fly if you can. Book via your GP.
NovemberβFebruary daytime highs are 2β9Β°C, damp and windy. Layer up β thermals, jumper, waterproof coat, umbrella, proper shoes. Dry wet clothes fully before re-wearing. Don't overheat your room either.
Get fresh fruit/veg in even in catered halls. Tell caterers about any dietary needs. Store food properly, check use-by dates, keep raw and cooked separate, wash hands, cook eggs / poultry / meat thoroughly.
No cure β rest, hydrate with water and juice, avoid alcohol. It passes in a few days. See a GP if it worsens or lingers.
It's not your fault. Try not to wash or change clothes before deciding whether to report β evidence can help. Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) give free medical + emotional support.
Managing a long-term condition
Bring 3+ months of medication and a doctor's letter, then set up NHS repeat prescriptions early.
Register with a GP fast β you'll need repeat prescriptions and possibly a specialist referral. Bring 3 months of insulin/tablets and a doctor's letter.
Bring your latest TSH/T4 report. GP arranges levothyroxine on repeat prescription; blood tests every 6β12 months.
Bring inhalers and your action plan. Register with a GP for repeat inhalers and an annual asthma review.
Never let your medication run out. Bring 3+ months, share your seizure history, and set up repeat prescriptions early.
ADHD medications are controlled β bring documentation of your Indian diagnosis and current prescription. Warwick's Neurodivergence team can help you navigate NHS referrals.
Mental health support
Everyone struggles at some point. You have real options β free through the NHS and through Warwick.
Free CBT-style therapy for anxiety, depression, panic, phobias, OCD, PTSD, BDD and long-term-illness stress. Self-referral β no GP needed. Waits vary; expect a few weeks.
Self-refer onlineFree counselling, group therapy and email therapy through the university. Start with a brief consultation at Senate House (MonβFri 10amβ3pm) or online. If referred, CAPS appointment within 2β6 weeks.
Warwick WellbeingUse 111 online and pick the mental health option, or call 111. If a life is at risk β including your own β call 999. A mental health emergency is a real emergency.
Urgent mental healthSamaritans: 116 123 (any age, any time). Childline (under 19): 0800 1111 β free and doesn't appear on your bill. You will never be wasting anyone's time.
Samaritans- Bring at least 3 months' supply in original packaging.
- Bring a letter from your Indian psychiatrist / GP with diagnosis, medication name, dose and treatment duration.
- If you've been hospitalised or had significant episodes, bring a summary β it makes the NHS handover much smoother.
- Mental health meds are not exempt β you pay Β£9.90/item. Get a PPC (Β£114.50/year) to cap the cost.
Warwick Wellbeing, disability & specialist support
Everything the university offers beyond the NHS β for physical, sensory, learning, mental health and life-crisis support.
Modifications for lectures, assessments and exams β from recorded lectures and considerate marking to alternative exam arrangements β to give you equal access.
Discuss ADHD/ADD, SpLDs (like dyslexia) and autism with the team. Diagnostic assessments are available through Warwick.
If a disability affects your accommodation needs, the Disability Team can help arrange suitable on-campus housing. Contact through the Wellbeing Portal.
Non-UK students should arrange personal care support before arriving. UK students contact their home Social Services for a care assessment.
Allowed on Warwick grounds under the Equality Act 2010 β must be registered/trained via a recognised organisation (Assistance Dogs UK, Guide Dogs, ADI).
Formal way to flag exceptional events (illness, bereavement, crisis) affecting exams or coursework. Declare through Tabula.
